04.08.09 - Godspeed one hour furniture

Godspeed - Furniture in less than an hour

All of Godspeed's furniture are assembled in a one hour time frame, so we're talking real fresh handcraft. Naturally every piece is unique. Other conditions: The products must serve a useful purpose and it must be designed by re-use of materials. Godspeed furniture is available in 3 different versions, Raw, Medium and Well done. Raw is unpolished version, in which the materials are untouched and kept pure. Medium is a combination between the raw conceptual line and the fine, user friendly line. Well done resembles the "fine line". This version allows the most comfort.

20.07.09 - Box Top Shop

Box Top Shop

During Design Miami 2008, I.D. Magazine hosted a 1,000-sq.ft. pop-up shop and lounge in the heart of Miami's Design District, selling limited-edition design objects from Areaware and Charles & Marie, as well as an edition of 300 I.D. tote bags. Using the language of shipping materials, namely cardboard boxes and tape, Rich Brilliant Willing has devised a practical solution to create a temporary retail environment. By using flat-packed hollow volumes (cardboard boxes), a shop is assembled in a single day. The boxes provide the necessary presentation requirements of merchandise using a minimal amount of material--the boxes themselves are readymade components drawn from a variety of manufacturers and industrial suppliers.

Tracey Neuls' Shop & Show

Outstanding shop decoration from shoe designer Tracey Neuls. During London Fashion week she opened a temporary shop at No. 1-5 Exhibition Rd. in Kensington. Open for only 3 weeks the space sold Tracey's current collection and displaying shoes from her impressive 10 year archive amongst the objects that inspire her.

Ideas for inspiration: The shoes were displayed hanging from the ceiling above recycled drawer units that were stacked on top of each other. The drawers were also arranged vertically and clamped together to create shelving.

17.07.09 - Chris Rucker

Strandboard furniture

Strandboard is normally used in construction, but has now found its way into furniture design - a cheap material and actually quite environmental because it's (re)made of disposable wood. American designer Chris Rucker uses strandboard for his furniture collection.  I love this new trend using cheap material to immitat fine furnishing. I got myself a really cool diningtable in strandboard last year, and now workning on a coffee table.

15.07.09 - Postfossil

Doubleface by Postfossil

The idea behind doubleface's design is both simple and intriguing. The outline determines the form of the collection, a fruit bowl and a vase. Both objects are made of ceramic and cherry wood. The objects' form plays with symmetrical lines as well as natural complementary structures. However, at the same time, the bodies are clearly separated in terms of material and function.

04.07.09 - House in Saijo, Hiroshima

Simple living i Japan

If I should choose to build a house, it would be something like this amazing modern pit dwelling house. The house is build by chief architect Makoto Tanijiri of Suppose Design Office in Hiroshima. It looks like something from the future without any warning hit a relative peaceful surbubian area. But in fact the house is inspired by the traditionel japanese pit dwellings dated back to the Yayoi era (200 B.C. - 250 A.C.). Makoto Tanijiri demonstrates that only a mind free of restraints and rules can create a non conventional way of living. Where spatial arrangements and the concept of interpenetrating exterior and interior space is long achieved by Japanese architecture and living.

TAF Architect Office

Okay, we beat the Swedes in football, but when it comes to design the blue and yellow team is at the very top of the league. TAF architect office in Stockholm is runned by the two designers Mattias Ståhlbom and Gabriella Gustafson. During Milan Design Week they were commissioned to create a design installation at the famous Rossana Orlandi shop. The result was "Soft Parcel" - a series of articles which were "wrapped" and upholstered in textiles. The lamp from TAF was designed in connection with the refurbishment of the Swedish RH Chairs' showrooms this year.

It's all self-catering and all are blissfully void of any communication device including computers, phones or even televisions. Instead guests are offered a well-stocked library and a communal ‘Gute Stube' - a space to cook, socialise and work together around an open fire - for entertainment.
